The Science of Home Espresso: A Masterclass

Description: You don’t need a professional and crazy expensive machine to pull an extraordinary shot. You just need to understand the fundamentals of extraction. In this masterclass, we bridge the gap between "home brewing" and "professional standards."

To make things approachable, we will be using the Breville Bambino and the DF64 grinder (tools many of you already have in your kitchens) and will show you how to apply Extraction Theory to achieve cafe-quality results. To prove it, we will obtain hard data with our Refractometer to measure TDS and Extraction and contrast our home-gear results against our shop-standard La Marzocco and Mahlkonig grinders.

What We Will Cover:

•⁠  ⁠The Theory: Understanding Dose, Ratio, and Grind Size and how to adjust them to improve our espresso at home.
•⁠  ⁠Dialing and Calibration: We will learn to taste espresso and what to look for when dialing it. We will pair subjective tastings with objective, measurable data (TDS and extraction) to achieve the best tasting espresso.
•⁠  ⁠Puck Prep Mastery: Technical WDT and tamping techniques to ensure you pull shots like a pro.
