This "Sun Tea" Bourbon Ajรญ is one of the latest coffee discoveries in Colombia. It gained major recognition after becoming a finalist in the 2021 Cup of Excellence!
Flavor-wise, this variety is truly exceptionalโintense spicy and floral notes, a honeyed body, and hints of blackberry, strawberry, and jasmine.
Although often called "Bourbon Ajรญ," genetic testing confirms it's actually an Ethiopian landrace, not a Bourbon variety.
Its exact journey to Colombia remains uncertain, but the most accepted theory is that a farmer took seeds from the Ethiopian variety collection of the Colombian National Coffee Federationโsomething that has happened before.
Farmed by the one and only Diego Horta, who we are heavily featuring this month. Our close relationship means many trips to Colombia, including a recent trip where we, along with Diego, became Q graders. Next year, you will see many more joint projects come to life.ย
